In this scene FOB (fresh off the boat) literally means just that. Here you see brightly colored opah, a fish you've probably never seen but will love if prepared right, and a fishing boat catch brought to the Honolulu Fish Auction.(The only fish auction between Tokyo and Maine.)
The action is non-stop as the boats begin lining up at 1:00 am. to off-load their fresh catch onto giant waiting carts, seen here in this painting. Opah, my favorite, can grow to be several hundred pounds. Each fish is weighed, tagged and kept icy cold for the exciting indoor auction beginning at 5:30.
