Over my decades of living in the Hawaiian Islands and delighting in its scenic beauty, one of my goals as an artist has been to hone my skills at painting seascapes. Consequently, I am honored that this plein air painting “Halona Sun and Shade” has been selected by the American Society of Marine Artists for their upcoming 17th National Exhibition.  Later I learned that my painting was “…one of the top 20 images that were singled out for their outstanding artistry and graphic qualities out of 470 entries”.  To read the article featuring my painting in the July-August 2016 issue of Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine, please click here.

The American Society of Marine Artists formed in 1978, has 600 members in 41 states and internationally. The National Exhibition will travel to six prestigious museums in five states:  Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, Minnesota and Connecticut, and  will run for 17 months from September 2016 to January 2018.  For more information:  www.americansocietyofmarineartists.com

I painted this scene at one of my favorite Oahu locations, Halona Cove on Oahu's east side. It was the site of the famous love scene of Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr in "From Here to Eternity"  and hence, the local name for the little cove is "Eternity Beach".
