Two major reasons I am often attracted to paint a subject are strong values,(the range of light and dark in the scene) and color. Richard Schmid, an artist I greatly admiredclarified it further.
"Color is to seeing what flavor is to eating."
One day in Seville, Espana, a sun-drenched parkall the right chords beautiful light patterns and natural color harmony. The intense back-lit, action figures contribute the spark of humanity, and direct you into the composition.
The colors radiate joy, and a feeling of freedom and comfort. Something lacking in our lives this past year.
You may notice that I've been introducing more figures in my paintings lately. I am enjoying the challenge. I also find it intriguing to imagine their presence in the scene.
