This little blue cottage belonged to the proprietor of Small Town Coffee in Kapaa, Kauai. Looking for an intimate and more unusual vantage point, I was more intrigued by the angles of the back lanai with the blue bike than the entire cottage. I kept my fingers crossed that the owner wouldn't come out and take his bike for a ride, leaving me without a focal point. Fortunately, that didn't happen this time. I've never had much luck painting boats as all too frequently they either leave for sea or, in one dramatic case, actually sink before I can finish their portrait! It always inspires me to paint faster than usual with movable subject matter.
